Faculty Participation in the Teacher Excellence Initiative Funded by USAID

As part of the Teacher Excellence Initiative (TEI) at the Faculty of Education, Beni Suef University, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Taha, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Azam Abdel Nabi, Director of the Quality Unit, participated in a study tour at the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, Arizona State University, USA.

Prof. Dr. Osama Mahmoud Qarni, Dean of the Faculty, emphasized that the Teacher Excellence Initiative is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Education Development Center (EDC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, and the Supreme Council of Universities. The project aims to enhance the quality of teacher education in Egyptian universities, build and strengthen teachers' capacities, support student learning, and advance educational reform.

Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College is one of the leading teacher preparation colleges at Arizona State University, excelling in training educators across various specializations, including:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Primary Education
  • Multilingual Primary Education
  • Middle School Education
  • Secondary Education
  • Special Education (General & Visual Impairment)
  • STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

During the study tour, participants attended an introductory session led by the college’s Dean, where they explored the college’s vision, objectives, and programs. The visit also included:

  • Workshops and discussion sessions on key areas of the Teacher Excellence Initiative, such as universal design for learning, practical training, interdisciplinary curricula, and the use of technology and innovation in education.
  • Campus tours of Arizona State University, showcasing teaching halls, virtual laboratories, and library facilities used in teacher preparation programs.
  • Field visits to a public school in Arizona, observing classroom designs, music and art rooms, sports facilities, and specially designed outdoor learning spaces for early childhood education.
