The Effect of Using McCarthy's (4MAT) Model to develop sustainable development concepts and positive thinking skills for preparatory school students

Abstract Abdelmoez Mohamed Ebrahim The Effect of Using McCarthy's (4MAT) Model to develop sustainable development concepts and positive thinking skills for preparatory school students The current research aimsat investigating the effect of using McCarthy's (4MAT) model in teaching geography on developing the sustainable development concepts and positive thinking skills for preparatory school students. The researcher has prepared a teacher’s guide for teaching the unitof “TheWealth of our Arab Homeland", which is set for the second grade students in the second semester according to McCarthy's (4MAT) model. The researcher also prepared a test for the sustainable development concepts and a test for the positive thinking gskills. The sample of the research consisted of (70) preparatory school students in BeniSuef Governorate. It consisted of two groups ; one of them was as an experimental group comprising (35) students, and the other was as a control group comprising (35) students. The current research instruments were applied in advance, followed by teaching according to McCarthy's (4MAT) model for the experimental group while the students of the control group studied by the traditional method. The researcher found that: The students of the experimental group surpassed the students of the control group in the post-application of the test of sustainable development concepts as well as test of positive thinking skills. The researcher attributed this difference to the teaching according to McCarthy's 4MAT model which helped to develop the sustainable development concepts and the positive thinking skills. The researcher recommended the training for teachers to use McCarthy's (4MAT) model, and use a lot of teaching methods that help learners to use the sustainable development concepts and positive thinking skills.
