“The Effect of Computerized Tests on the Performance of Fourth Year English Department Students at Beni-Suef Faculty of Education on Listening Tasks”

Research Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is sought to investigate the effect of computerized tests on the performance of 4th English Department Students at Beni-Suef Faculty of Education on Listening Tasks. Listening comprehension, and consequently, listening comprehension assessment has been given the utmost attention worldwide and in Egypt. The study, therefore, aimed at proposing listening comprehension computerized assessment training software that may improve the listening comprehension skills among English department students through checking their performance on the listening tasks, and checking the effects of computerized listening comprehension assessment packages on enhancing performance on the listening comprehension component of computerized tests. Sixty 4th year students participated in this study. They were randomly selected and assigned for the experimental group (N=30) and the control group (N=30). Findings of the study revealed that the software designed for the purpose of developing listening comprehension, has been effective in the development of specific listening skills for the university learners. The t-test results revealed statistically significant differences between the post-test mean scores in all listening skills listening for the gist, listening for specific information, guess the meaning of unfamiliar words from context, and use the context to make predictions and the total score in favour of the experimental group.
